First set of secondments: Finished!

Part of our PhD is also change of environment, thus to pack our backpacks and move to different country. We visit our fellow PhD students and share our expertise and have fun and networking.
Here is the first set of secondments which took place already at the end of 2021, when the pademic rules allowed us to meet each other.
Read our fellows experience!

This is the best social experience I got and especially during COVID it was amazing to meet my fellow collaborators here in Tübingen.

I am so grateful for all the time and effort they put in hosting me and for the trust to learn and assist in such important experiments.

I cannot wait to receive people in our lab in Heidelberg as well and to code some of the analysis of experimental data together!

I've spent the last 3 months working with the Lako Lab and Newcells to learn how to generate retinal organoids.

The experience during this secondment has been great!

Not only have I had the opportunity to learn to differentiate iPSCs into retinal organoids - which is a key part of my PhD project - I've also spent time at Newcells learning how they generate organoids and RPE as a product to sell.

Along with this, though, the Secondment has given me the opportunity to meet new colleagues and friends, and develop deep collaborations between our labs.

One of my goals during my Ph.D. is to identify all the primary cilia specific interacting partners of my target protein.

In order to identify these interacting partners, I've visited Ronald Roepman's lab for 2.5 months in Nijmegen, NL, to learn how to perform proteomics.

During those months I've learned a lot about how to perform such large-scale analysis, and I've also picked up tricks and tips from their approaches that differ from my lab. It has been a great opportunity to be on a lab exchange because I've also had the chance to explore the wonderful Netherlands, see what other people in my field are doing, and create important research connections with great scientists.
