We have one PhD position available!

1 PhD position

is available in the framework of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (ITN) on Training researchers for Studying Ciliary Signalling in Development and Disease (SCilS)

The current position is to work in the Cell Network - Metisox company of Dr. Gordana Apic in Heidelberg. Our role in the project is principally to create a knowledge base that allows analysis of results and -omics data from experimental collaborators and public databases, facilitating elucidation of molecular mechanisms, disease pathways and druggable targets. The candidate will be transforming literature information into a computable form, building and expanding disease ontologies, and building report structure for the output.

The successful candidate will have a Masters (or equivalent) degree in Life Sciences (Biology, Pharmacy) or Computer Science, and experience/interest in studying and understanding biological datasets (particularly network representations thereof) ideally with clinical aims in mind. Experience in bioinformatics is an advantage. The PhD candidate will be embedded into the PhD Program at the University of Heidelberg.  Since we are an industrial partner in this project, the PhD position will involve dealing with an industrial work flow and getting familiar with different applied sides of a life science business. The interest to work with diverse collaborators (from different backgrounds) is a must, as is proficiency in English, and some preliminary experience with computer programming. The position will involve regular travels to other European partners and visits for several weeks (secondments) to gain experience and collaborate.

Cell Networks – Metisox GmbH, Heidelberg, Germany: Metisox.com
